One of the things I'm most concerned about is making sure that Dzader's development is consistent, so from now on I'll be keeping track of what attitudes he has in each chapter, mostly toward Nelly but also for the situation at hand. I'll keep updating as I keep writing.

For my reference...Collapse )

Well, it's been a while since I last updated again, but I am still alive and still working on Chapter 6 of The Miracle Potion. I really wanted to get that done during the summer, but a combination of being tired from work, becoming obsessed with the tons of new anime coming out, and getting stuck on how to write a certain very important scene stalled that for like...several months.

The good news is that I've got that scene figured out in my head now, the Fall and Winter anime seasons suck, aaand...I dunno if I'm going to be working again or not, but hopefully that shouldn't stop me. I wrote like three or four pages over the weekend (it was already 10+ pages btw) and stopped at a good place so I could pick it up easily again once I'm done with finals. I really want to finish Chapter 6 before Christmas. Really, really.

Also, writing is very therapeutic for me and I'm feeling kinda crappy now (and probably will be feeling even more crappy in the future), so this is all good news as far as writing is concerned. Yeah. I'll update again when I'm done with the chapter~

I was supposed to be writing my Engish paper today. But instead, I got majorly inspired in the shower and ended up finishing Chapter 5 of The Miracle Potion (which I had been having trouble with since Winter Break), and wrote out a rough plot for a story using this setting (which I had been trying to come up with for over a year now).

Meanwhile, I have not made any progress on my paper. It has to be over ten pages and is due on Friday! X_X

But, well....at least I've got those things done. I'll edit and post Chapter 5 once school is over. Then I'll get started on Chapter 6, which is going to be HUGE, because I had to move over an important conversation from Chapter 5 (I just couldn't find a way to make it fit). So Chapter 6 will have at least TWO major information dumps. And maybe a couple of flashbacks. Phew.

I really want to write. I've been yearning to write Chapter 5 of The Miracle Potion for the last week or so, but I've been spending a lot of time with family and getting things ready for holidays, birthdays, etc. And I have a ton of other personal projects to do with my remaining week and a half of Winter Break, but mom's taken time off from work for the rest of the week so I have to spend time with her. >.< (That isn't at all a bad thing, but it means I'll have less time to work on stuff.)

I reeeaaally want to write, though. Nelly keeps poking at me to continue. ;__; But oddly enough, I'm not inspired at all for The Last Child of Earth, which is what I was really planning to write during Winter Break. Gah. I need that scholarship...

But for now I have to go wash a heap of dishes before mom gets home. I'll try to set aside some time this weekend, at least. I want to pop into Writer's Group next week too, so I'll make that my deadline.

I just put Nelly, Dzader, and Abi (my "main characters" for The Miracle Potion) through The Universal Mary-Sue Litmus Test. Here are their scores:

Nelly - 16
Dzader - 5
Abi - 1

I honestly expected Nelly to score higher. XD; Because she's so good at her job and cooking....but for everything else (gardening, sewing, writing, etc.) she's only average. I also expected Abi to get higher, because she's the one with the sarcastic attitude + she can use magic + she's tomboyish. But she only scored 1. O_O I guess it's because in terms of talent, she's just average all around? And I suppose she might look sexy when she's older, but she's only about 13 years old in the story, so....

Anyway. I haven't made much progress in NaNoWriMo at all. Too many damn projects and papers and the new FMA chapter and Anime USA and....and November is practically over already. -__- Better luck next year? I still plan on finishing the next part that I was writing though, and I'll try to post it once I'm out for Winter break. ...You know, I have to wonder why they had to choose November of all months. Why not a less-busy month like August or something?

So yeah, I signed up for National Novel Writers Month. I'll be writing the continuation of The Last Child of Earth, and my goal is to get as far as I can before the month is over. I chose this because The Miracle Potion is something I want to spend more time on. For The Last Child of Earth, I already have the beginning and know the ending- I just have to work on the middle, and hopefully I can find some new ideas for it.

Wish me luck?

Ahahah I suck, I didn't finish Chapter 5. :D My summer job sucked away most of my time (though I wrote a ton of story notes on post-it notes at work shhhh), and what little free time I had was spent distracting myself with manga and anime. Oops. I do plan to keep writing, though. Heck, I have all of Chapter 5 planned out, if I work on it on weekends I can probably get it done by fall or winter break. And by winter break, I'll be in the mood to work on my short story again~

So yeah, that's what's happening. Later!

Gah, I forgot to post about this, but I did indeed finish Chapter 4 of The Miracle Potion on Wednesday! I'll try to put it up today after some more editing~!

Also, I've started writing Chapter 5. :D If I am able to finish it in a week or two, then I might raise my goal higher to writing three chapters this summer. Because at the rate I'm going, getting to Chapter 6 definetly seems possible.

Guh, I haven't been able to get any writing done this week because of work. D: This morning though, I spent some time writing notes for later chapters of the Miracle Potion and fleshing out Dzader and Adonis's characters more.

You know, though I mean this book to be a mesh of fantasy and mystery, most of it will be going in depth with the characters' relationships. In fact, none of the mystery would be there without the character introspection. I find this easier to do by telling it through Dzader's point of view, instead of Nelly's (though mainly I just don't want the reader to be able to see into Nelly's head).

The bad thing about this POV though, is that you won't be able get into Adonis's head...which means that it will be difficult to show his side of things. Dzader and Adonis don't talk much, and Dzader is never present for Nelly's conversations with him. I don't want to switch POVs in this book either, because that would take away the point of Dzader having the POV in the first place, which is to have an unreliable narrator.

Anyway, enough rambling. I want to finish Chapter 4 soon so I could move on to the more interesting stuff.

EDIT: Woah, I'm looking over my older story notes, and it seems I'd planned out the book to be seventeen chapters. O_o WTF, it's going to be a lot longer than that! Like at least twenty...but of course, I've come up with more ideas since then. I'm just boggled that I thought I'd be able to fit everything into so few chapters...there'd be no room to breathe.

I am halfway done with Chapter 4 of The Miracle Potion. However, I just started my new job today so I probably won't be able to finish it this week. Right now I am aiming for next Wednesday, and even if I don't have it completely done by then, I'll have enough to share at Writer's Group. :D

This week I also plan on posting Chapter 3. *tries to keep that in mind*
